Shri. M.P. Purushothaman, affectionately known as “MP,” is the visionary founder and Chairman of the Empee Group, a distinguished South Indian conglomerate headquartered in Chennai. Starting in the early 1970s with a chain of restaurants in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, he built a diverse empire encompassing Alcoholic Beverages, Hospitality, Sugar and Chemicals, Power Generation, and Property Development. His entrepreneurial journey began at a young age, with an early foray into the hotel industry, followed by bold diversification across Southern India. Known for his strategic foresight and unwavering courage, MP’s meticulous approach to business has driven the Empee Group to remarkable success.
Beyond his entrepreneurial achievements, Shri. M.P. Purushothaman is a revered figure in the hospitality industry and a dedicated philanthropist. He served as President of the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) for three terms, President of the South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA) for 10 years, and a member of its executive committee for 35 years. Additionally, he led the Tamil Nadu Hotel Owners Association as President for 18 years. These roles underscore his transformative contributions to the hospitality sector, earning him widespread respect as a community leader.
MP’s commitment to society is equally profound. Through the Empee Educational and Charitable Trust, he established the National Matriculation Higher Secondary School and the Empee Institute of Hotel Management, reflecting his belief in education as a cornerstone for empowering young minds. As President of the Federation of All India Marunadan Malayalee’s Associations and the Confederation of Tamil Nadu Malayalee’s Associations (CTMA), he has tirelessly championed the welfare of Malayalee communities outside Kerala. His extensive charitable, socio-economic, and cultural initiatives continue to uplift society, cementing his legacy as a compassionate leader dedicated to both industry excellence and community welfare.
